Job Summary The Sr. Planning Engineer, Automation is a full-time, individual contributor who is part of the Local Planning team in CenturyLink's North American Operations group. The Sr. Planning Engineer, Automation is responsible for script, report, database and tool/system development. This automation is in support of the local Regional Planner activities of design, cost and inventory of the CenturyLink network. Job Description Identify and implement automation improvement opportunities including script, report, database and/or tool development or enhancements. Assist with the development of business cases and seek funding approval in support of required script, report, database and/or tool development or enhancements. Partner with the other key resources to refine requirements for script, report, database or tool development or enhancements for both BOA (business owned applications) and IT owned applications. Develop new and/or enhance existing scripts, reports, databases and/or tools/systems in support of local planning activities. Test newly developed or enhanced scripts, reports and/or tools. Document coding associated with developed/enhanced scripts, reports, databases and tools. Collaborate with leadership to prioritize script, report, database and tool development and enhancements. Work with IT personnel, when appropriate, to support script, report, database or tool development and enhancements. The Sr. Planning Engineer, Automation is a strong, self-motivated individual with the ability to negotiate and communicate professionally in a dynamic and fast paced environment while maintaining the highest level of integrity and quality in their work. Qualifications General awareness of planning methods and procedures, installation practices and telecom architectures. Experience Legacy CenturyLink, Legacy Qwest and Legacy Level 3 planning a plus. Able to prioritize and complete assignments on time. Must be highly self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. Computer skills sufficient to work in a progressively paperless environment. Familiarity with data marts and/or data warehouses. Skilled in software programming (i.e. writing scripts, report and database development and coding). Working knowledge of MS Office software applications (i.e. Word, Access, etc.) and intermediate Excel expertise (VBA, Macro coding, and comprehensive Pivot Table experience) VBA (in Excel and MS Access is useful) SQL (ORACLE, MYSQL, JetSQL, PostgreSQL) (ACCESS a benefit) Web Programming (for example, AJAX web development experience, ideally having experience in something like AngularJS 4+, ExtJS, or similar) Familiarity with local planning processes and tools is a plus (in order of importance): - TIRKS - GSA - LFACS/MARTENS - CDBI - NBIE/BBC - WFMT - NDS - ARMOR - TOAD/HEIDI SQL/SQL DEVELOPER SNMP/TL1 protocol / polling experience with DSLAMs, routers, and other network elements is beneficial. Telnet/SSH (secure shell) experience accessing network elements, including writing and/or executing scripts, something like ProComm Plus ASPECT Script or similar Big Data experience (with Hadoop, JupyterHub, Jupyter Notebooks, Splunk, etc.) Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science or equivalent education and experience and/or industry technical certification.
