What Will You Be Doing?

The Sustainability Forester leads local sustainability compliance for Drax pellet plants and engages with industry and conservation partners to support Drax Group's ambition to be world leaders in sustainable biomass sourcing. The position is responsible for overseeing in-woods sustainability as well as compliance with chain-of-custody, fiber sourcing, and SBP certifications.

Key Accountabilities:

---Assist with implementation of Drax Biomass's sustainability policies and procedures

---Coordinate plant -level internal and external audit logistics

---Support fiber contract administration through verification of sustainability data collection and internal audit

---Oversee regional forestry Best Management Program (BMP) inspection process for in-woods suppliers

---Administer sustainability training for internal fiber team and external suppliers

---Lead local engagement with forest industry, i.e. forestry associations, SFI implementation committees

---Work with FIber and Operations team to source and utilize the "Right Biomass" that will deliver Nature, People, and Climate Positive outcomes.

---Lead engagement with local conservation partners to support delivery of Nature Positive outcomes

---Perform other "as needed" functions to support Drax Group sustainability ambitions

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

---Ability to adapt to working within a team or lone working environment, with minimal supervision

---Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Forestry, Wildlife, or other Natural Resources based study program required

---Applied knowledge of forestry Best Management Practices with 2 + years' experience

---Analytical skills

Excel proficiency required
3Log and/or other data management system preferred
Arc GIS skills required; experience preferred

---Good communication skills (verbal, writing, and collaborative)

Special Features:

Ability to work effectively across departments, with suppliers, and with external partners to deliver an industry-leading sustainability program. Regional position supporting two or more pellet plants therefore limited regional travel will be required.

Measures of Success:

Measures of success include tangible contribution to continued certification under multiple forest certification standards, effective collaboration and communication across departments to help deliver a strong sustainability program, leadership in local industry and conservation forums, and value-added support to Group level sustainability initiatives.
